DSM announces reorganisation at DSM Pharma Chemicals in Venlo, NL
Venlo, (NL), 16 December 2009
DSM Pharma Chemicals in Venlo, the Netherlands, today announced the intention
for a reorganisation that, according to plan, will lead to the loss of
approximately 35 jobs. The intended reorganisation, which has been explained to
and for which advice from the local works council has been requested, will be
implemented in 2010. DSM will do its utmost to limit the number of forced
lay-offs as much as possible. In consultation with the Labor Unions a Social
Plan will be made.
DSM Pharma Chemicals is part of the business group DSM Pharmaceutical Products.
This business group faces limited demand from pharmaceutical companies, delay in
approvals and the loss of some large contracts. These factors combined lead to
increasing cost pressure.
To be able to be also successful in the future, the site Venlo therefore has to
optimize its cost structure. For this a so-called ?lean and mean? model has been
chosen. This means that all activities at the site have been examined in detail
to determine the minimum necessary occupation.
All other activities will be phased out or will be incorporated at DSM Pharma
Chemicals in Linz, Austria. By doing this, optimal flexibility will be realized
as well as the most optimal cost structure for the site.
The reorganization of the site Venlo is part of the earlier announced reduction
of 1250 jobs globally, of which approximately 350 in the Netherlands.
DSM Pharma Chemicals is active in custom chemical manufacturing of complex
registered intermediates and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).
