Wolters Kluwer is a global information services and publishing company, providing products and services for professionals in the health, tax, accounting, corporate, financial services, legal and regulatory, and education sectors.
WOLTERS KLUWER
This is a worldwide information service company with its main location in Alphen aan den Rijn. The company was created in the year 1987 after a merger between two companies that were then known as; Walters Samson and Kluwer Publishers.
Kluwer and Wolters Samson united so as to prevent Elsevier’s hostile take-over bid. Elsevier was the largest publishing house and had already expressed the intention of buying Kluwer’s stock in 1987. After the two company’s unity, they became the largest publishing house in the Netherlands overtaking and therefore Elsevier.
The company operates legal, accounting and finance, tax and audit services. Wolters Kluwer has been able to expand its operation to over 150 countries. Its power of diversification made it grow so fast thus acquiring several other companies including; IPSOA Editore, Tele consulte and Technipublicaciones by the year 1989. In the same year, the company extended its operation to France, Spain, West Germany and Poland where the company introduced LEX, its legal information system.
By 2013, the company was functioning under four main divisions; Tax and Accounting, Legal and Regulatory Solutions, Health and Governance, Risk and Compliance. The Wolters and Kluwer Corporation won a Bronze Class Sustainability Award in 2014 and were recognized to be among the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations by Corporate Knight.
